REBATES FOR HEATING SYSTEMS
Since 2018, the province of Ontario cancelled the previous 'Green Ontario' program which offered rebates to owners looking to upgrade their homes with solar panels, insulation, heat pumps.. The rebates currently available are mainly for high efficiency gas furnaces (96% of higher) through Enbridge; they offer $250 to upgrade to a high-efficiency condensing natural gas furnace and other rebates for insulation.
Also until this 31st of March, the federal government offered a Energy Savings Rebate program. This provided buyers with rebates of up to $1,000 for air-source heat pumps. There currently isn't yet any rebates on hybrid HVAC systems as it entered recently in the market. Hybrid systems have many benefits, but their expensive cost shouldn't be a reason to discourage buyers from installing it in their homes.
Governments should be creating more incentives to transition to cleaner energy and support innovation. Mitigating climate change by reducing GHG emissions should be the utmost priority for every province, city and Country in the world. I believe we can make a change one home at a time and create warmer and greener spaces; because our future depends on it.
